The Perfect Combination
In many ponds the pH is naturally too low to support a thriving ecosystem. The application of agricultural limestone at a rate of 4-6 tons/acre is required to bring this to the appropriate range of 6.5-9.
Once the pH has been properly adjusted, fertilization may begin. Proper fertilization creates a phytoplankton bloom that feeds small, forage fish such as bluegill and shad. This increases forage reproduction and gives largemouth bass an ample food suppply. A fertilized pond will produce 400% more fish than one that is not fertilized. This means more and bigger fish.
How We Can Help
Lime and fertilizer application rates fluctuate based on variables such as pond flow, acreage, seasonality, pH, and alkalinity. By visiting your pond and collecting a water sample we can customize a plan to meet your needs.
